  • The Attorney General for the Ontario government announced that as of January 1, 2020, the Small Claims Court which handles all civil litigation under the monetary jurisdiction of $25,000 will increase by $10,000 to a new limit of $35,000, exclusive of interest and costs.

  • Landlord and Tenant board will by defacto increase its monetary jurisdiction from $25,000 to $35,000 as of January 1, 2020, this change came after an announcement by the Attorney General for Ontario announced the increase for Civil litigation in the Small Claims Court.

  • Under the Making Ontario Open for Business Act key amendments to the Employment Standards Act will come into force including repealing Personal Emergency Leave and replacing it with three unpaid days for personal illness; two unpaid bereavement leave days; and three unpaid days for family responsibility leave and maintaining the minimum wage rate at $14 per hour until 2020, and then increasing it by the rate of inflation.
